It has been the cornerstone of some of the most influential people in the world. Books have been written on it and studies done over the years. But to date, the power of attitude is one of the mysteries of life. From people with life threatening illnesses to those involved in almost fatal accidents, the power of attitude seems to defy even death itself. So why is it so hard to hold onto a good attitude for so many? Well that’s an easy one. Comfort zones.
Attitudes drive behavior, behavior drives decisions, decisions determine life. An example such as ~ our body language is a result of our mental attitude ~ is am example of just how powerful attitude is. By choosing your attitude, you get in that mood and send out a message that everyone understands, consciously or unconsciously.
An attitude is a hypothetical construct that represents an individual’s degree of like or dislike for something. Attitudes are generally positive or negative views of a person, place, thing, or event— this is often referred to as the attitude object. People can also be conflicted or ambivalent toward an object, meaning that they simultaneously possess both positive and negative attitudes toward the item in question.
Almost always, you have a choice as to what attitude to adopt. There is nothing in any normal work situation that dictates you must react one way or another. If you feel angry about something that happens, for instance, that’s how you choose to feel. Nothing in the event itself makes it absolutely necessary for you to feel that way. It is your choice. And since you do have a choice, most of the time you’ll be better off if you choose to react in a positive rather than a negative way.

Attitudes are judgments. They develop on the ABC model (affect, behavior, and cognition). The affective response is an emotional response that expresses an individual’s degree of preference for an entity. The behavioral intention is a verbal indication or typical behavioral tendency of an individual. The cognitive response is a cognitive evaluation of the entity that constitutes an individual’s beliefs about the object. Most attitudes are the result of either direct experience or observational learning from the environment.
Our training programs don’t focus on changing behavior, they focus on changing the attitude that controls the decision making process that determines behavior.
